The acceleration of the market highlighted pressing challenges critical to the government and the sector – around health, safety and environmental considerations.
The need was identified to develop and codify good practice to fill in key knowledge gaps and respond to questions seen as critical by the UK Battery Industrialization Center and UK industry. Consultation would include companies and stakeholders already associated with the FBC, and attract new ones.
Facilitated workshops with industry and government stakeholders helped develop detailed scopes for the three PASs and secured industry involvement in the PAS and roadmap development process.
The standards focus on different parts of the value chain, including health, safety and environmental considerations for battery manufacture in components, and vehicle design.
They include consideration of end of life, second life and recycling aspects; they also form the basis of a wider, long-term standardization to battery manufacturing worldwide.
