A voluntary standard and auditing programme for the hygiene product industry

The Quality and Audit Programme (QAP) is a harmonised standard developed by EDANA with its members, in collaboration with BSI to facilitate an objective third-party audit. The QAP is designed specifically for the nonwoven hygiene product industry.

Not only does the programme reduce audit time for organisations, it demonstrates compliance with an industry-wide and transparent standard — ensuring that participants can grow both trust and long-term brand value.

A cleaner path to standards excellence

QAP is comprised of two elements: 
  • The EDANA Standard, which is a unified benchmark that documents the minimum expected standards for hygiene industry members to follow.  The goal is for the EDANA standard to become the leading global quality standard in the hygiene industry, thus ensuring that consumer products across the industry are of the highest quality. 
  • The audit programme, which is conducted by BSI and overseen by EDANA and adheres to the EDANA Standard  
It streamlines a process whereby converters independently execute audit programmes, by dispatching their own auditors to suppliers, often assessing similar requirements using different standards. With QAP, a BSI auditor conducts one audit ensuring that no duplication or overlap of audit activities takes place.  The results are then shared securely on the BSI Connect Portal which can be accessed by the supplier, and any of their respective converters. The Portal ensures all testing and audit information is accessed in one place by the authorised people.

The QAP audit pathway

Once an audit is requested, BSI is responsible for the execution by contacting the auditee site to arrange the logistics and inform converters about the upcoming audit.

Audits are carried out on-site by default. In case the sanitary situation prevents this, the auditor can decide to carry out a remote audit.
