Petrwrap appears to be a variant of the Petya ransomware. Initial indications show that the creators of this particular strain have evolved the original Petya strain and injected additional malicious code.

WannaCrypt ransomware >

The latest versions of ransomware to come to the fore is the WannaCrypt variant. It is currently unknown how the initial infection occurs with this strain but one confirmed means however, is via SMB services exposed to the internet.

CryptoWall >

The CryptoWall code includes a modified protocol that enables it to avoid being detected, even by 2nd generation enterprise firewall solutions. This lowers detection rates significantly compared to the already successful CryptoWall 3.0 attacks.

Locky >

Locky is predominantly distributed via email within infected Microsoft Office attachments such as Word or Excel documents delivered through phishing campaigns. Victims are hit with a message advising they have been hit with instructions on how to pay.
